Mission

Telecourses are credit courses offered via televised programs as well as a convenient audio tape format, each of which are designed for students with busy schedules. Our students earn required course credit in an alternative learning mode that is convenient, flexible, and service-oriented. Most of these courses are televised on WUSF-TV (Channel 16 broadcast in Tampa, St. Petersburg, Sarasota, and Lakeland) and on the Education Channel (available to Time-Warner cable subscribers in Hillsborough County only). In addition, many of the USF Telecourses contain a World Wide Web component.

Missed Videos & the Learning Lab

Missed TV episodes may be viewed in the Learning Lab (room 1271) at the Lakeland Campus.  Their hours are 9am-9pm Monday through Thursday, and 9am-5pm on Fridays.  Though no checkout tapes are available, it is possible to have an episode taped for home viewing.  To do so, please provide a blank videotape to the Learning Lab and allow 1-2 working days for the dubbing.  To find out when the dubbing is completed, call the Learning Lab at 667-7723.  You will pick up your tape in Room 1271.

Policy Regarding Telecourse Taping

It is not possible for the Lakeland Campus Learning Lab to dub the entire course series for home viewing. This option is only open to students living in an area that is not serviced by WUSF Channel 16.  All other students are encouraged to video tape the episodes off of the TV or view them in the Learning Lab.

Missed Reviews or Orientations

Reviews and Orientation sessions will be videotaped.  If you should miss one of these events, you may view the tape in the Learning Lab (Room 1271) during their normal operating hours (see above.)  You may also provide a blank videotape to the Learning Lab for dubbing purposes.  Please allow 1-2 working days for the Lab to dub your requests.  Call the Lab at 667-7723 to find out when your dub will be completed.  Tapes will be available for pick up in the Lab.

Re-Scheduling Exams

Most instructors will require written excuse for missing a scheduled exam.  Please check your syllabus for this information  Re-scheduling an exam follows a specific procedure.  First, it is the student’s responsibility to contact the instructor to find out if taking a make up exam is possible.  Once permission is obtained, the student then must contact the Telecourse Coordinator to schedule a time during office hours (9am-6pm Monday through Thursday, 8am-5pm on Fridays) to take the make up exam.  No make up exams will be given in the evenings or on weekends!  Be advised that many instructors only give essays exams as the make up exam.

Handing In Homework Assignments

If outside homework is required for your course, please follow the specifics outlined in your syllabus.  Homework assignments can be dropped off in person at the Student Services Counter. Please be advised that assignments MUST be handed in by 10:00am on the day they are due.

Grades

Instructors normally have up to two weeks to turn in a grade.  Once they are received at the Lakeland Campus they will be available for you to view with the Receptionist in the Student Services lobby area.  They may be viewed during regular business hours.  By State law, grades can not be given out over the phone, by e-mail,  or by fax.  You can obtain your grade either in person, or by providing a self-addressed, stamped envelope to the Telecourse Coordinator before the posting of grades.  Grades cannot be mailed out without the above envelope provided by the student.  If you have any questions regarding your grade, please contact your instructor.
