LAKELAND,
FL (September 27, 2002) - As
the Polk County area demands more opportunities for higher education,
the University of South Florida Lakeland campus continues to meet the
need. As a result, USF Lakeland has grown in leaps and bounds. Over the
summer, enrollment hit an all time high with a 29.4% increase in student
credit hours on the local campus. Most recently, the Fall 2002 student
credit hours soared at 23.63%. Since 1999 the campus has seen a 59.13%
increase in student credit hours.
As USF Lakeland continues to meet the demand, the campus has also increased
the number of faculty and staff members. This Fall 2002 will open with
over 11 new full time faculty members, joining the existing 17 Lakeland
based professors teaching the 20 plus programs available on the local
campus. Additional searches are in progress and, by Fall 2003, the campus
will have over 43 full-time Lakeland-based faculty. The campus has also
recently added 4 new Counselor Advising positions to assist students with
their program of study.

citizens of Polk, Highlands, Hardee and eastern Hillsborough counties,
