IT Colloquium to be held
at USF Lakeland
LAKELAND,
FL (September 08, 2003) - IT
is back!!! The University of South Florida’s Lakeland campus announces
the first Information Technology (IT) Colloquium of the 2003-2004 school
year, "IT Degrees: at USF and Florida’s Other Public Universities" Wednesday,
September 17, 2003, 12-1pm USF Lakeland Campus Room 2125/2126.
Featured speaker, Dr. David Armitage, USF IT professor, will speak on
the approach to Information Technology taken by USF professors. As he
states, “employers complain that their new IT workers graduate
from college without real-world know-how, but what is IT and how do you
teach it? I will discuss the exceptionally wide variety of degree program
responses to this question by the ten public universities in Florida,
using the USF IT degree developed at Lakeland as an example of a ‘middle-of-the-road’ approach.”
This lecture is part of the Information Technology lecture series given
throughout the school year. Topics change monthly with lectures given
by community members in the field of IT, USF Lakeland professors and
visiting professors from other institutions. The Information Technology
educational program is housed entirely on the Lakeland campus under the
college of Undergraduate Studies. For more information about degrees
offered in the field of IT, please call Lisa Wetmore, IT advisor, at
863-667-7064.
The University of South Florida is ranked one of the top 100 Universities
in the nation. As a Doctoral/Research extensive institution, the highest
educational ranking available, USF Lakeland is dedicated to serving the
citizens of Polk, Highlands, Hardee and eastern Hillsborough counties,
in a regional setting. Established in 1988, the Lakeland campus is a
distinctive locally available University with premier research and instructional
status, providing a variety of complete undergraduate and graduate degrees,
