Tara Crum named Outstanding Senior at USF Lakeland
Tara Crum of Winter Haven
recipient of the
Fall 2007 Outstanding Senior Award
LAKELAND,
FL (November 29, 2007) - The University of South Florida Lakeland has named Tara Crum of Winter Haven as the recipient of the Fall 2007 Outstanding Senior Award.
The award recognizes Crum for exceptional achievements in leadership, scholastic achievement, school spirit, work experience and community spirit. She currently serves as president of the Student Government Association and is actively involved in the Delta Sigma Pi business fraternity. Her academic achievements have earned her a Florida Medallion Bright Futures Scholarship, a USF Transfer Student Achievement Scholarship, and membership in the Golden Key Honor Society. A graduate of Winter Haven High School, she earned an associate of arts degree from Polk Community College.
“Tara Crum represents the ideal student at USF Lakeland,” said Assistant Professor Andrew Artis, Ph.D. “While many of our students work their way through our curriculum, few get involved in school activities with the gusto and pleasure she demonstrates.”
Crum’s community involvement is best exemplified by her creation of Brave Little Bulls, a Student Government sponsored program to recognize and comfort children with life-threatening illnesses.
“This program is my effort to form ties with the community and show that USF Lakeland cares,” said Crum, who will graduate Dec. 17 with a bachelor’s degree in general business administration.
As the Outstanding Senior, Crum will be honored as a special guest at USF Lakeland’s December commencement and sit onstage with the distinguished platform party. The president of the university and a representative of the USF Alumni Association will recognize her during the commencement exercise.
“Looking around the USF Lakeland community, I recognize that there are many outstanding seniors,” said Crum. “Although the experiences and life lessons from being involved were reward enough for me, it is a great honor to receive the Outstanding Senior Award.”
“Tara is an exceptional student as she balances both student involvement and academics,” said Jan Lloyd, Ph.D., director of student life. “As SGA president, Tara supervises several student staff members who oversee all programming for the campus. She earned the Outstanding Senior award because of her dedication to USF Lakeland through her involvement. She is an exceptional role model.”
