Jack Myers to receive Distinguished Service Award from USF Lakeland
Polk County Commissioner
Jack Myers,
recipient of the
Fall 2007
Distinguished Service Award
LAKELAND,
FL (December 4, 2007) - Polk County Commissioner Jack Myers will receive the Fall 2007 Distinguished Service Award from the University of South Florida Lakeland at its Dec. 17 commencement.
According to USF Lakeland VP/CEO Marshall Goodman, Myers has shown himself to be "a model of leadership and public service."
He was first elected to the County Commission in 2000 and is currently completing his second term. He previously served two terms as an Auburndale City Commissioner and one term as Mayor of Auburndale. Myers has served three times as Chairman of the Polk County Commission and is currently on the Transportation Planning Organization board and the MyRegion.org board of directors. He has also chaired the county's Tourism Development Council and served as the County's legislative liaison to the Polk County Delegation of State Legislators.
Myers has passionately supported education and economic development initiatives in Polk County and central Florida, and, in the words of Goodman, "Jack Myers has been a true friend of USF Lakeland. The future of our community and our institution is bright because of the kind of leadership he has provided."
