Tampa Bay Partnership meets at USF Lakeland
Dr. Marshall Goodman,
VP and CEO of USF Lakeland
LAKELAND,
FL (January 25, 2008) - The University of South Florida Lakeland today hosted the Tampa Bay Partnership’s board of directors meeting. Approximately 30 participants met in the new Lakeland Technology Building on campus to discuss regional partnerships and economic development priorities.
USF Lakeland VP &CEO Marshall Goodman, who serves on the Tampa Bay Partnership board, said, “Many of Polk County's needs can be addressed most efficiently if we have the support of our partners to the east and west. The meeting here gave the Tampa Bay folks a chance to see our recent investment in this facility and to network with Polk County economic development professionals.”
Lakeland Mayor Ralph "Buddy" Fletcher also addressed the board, emphasizing the role that regional partnerships must play in Florida's future.
The Tampa Bay Partnership is the regional organization that works with its partners to market the region nationally and internationally, to conduct regional research and to coordinate efforts to influence business and government issues that impact economic growth and development. Priorities include economic development marketing, public policy, business intelligence and regional leadership. Founded in 1994, the Tampa Bay Partnership markets the entire seven-county, 4,200-square-mile-area of west central Florida that includes Hernando, Hillsborough, Manatee, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk and Sarasota counties.
Following the meeting, participants toured the new Lakeland Technology Building and participated in demonstrations of technology-intensive pedagogy.
