Bob Stutman to speak at “Rx for Lakeland”
LAKELAND,
FL (January 29, 2008) -
“The most famous narc in America” is coming to Polk County.
Former DEA agent Bob Stutman will speak at “Rx for Lakeland: A Prescription for Drug-Free Teens” Feb. 25 at George Jenkins High School and Feb. 26 at the University of South Florida Lakeland. The 2:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. session at USF Lakeland is free and open to the public, law enforcement, government officials and nonprofits. Advance registration is required at www.rxforlakeland.com.
Stutman spent 25 years as a special agent with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration. For six years he headed the DEA’s New York office, largest in the country. Dan Rather called him “a true American hero.”
“In all of my experience I have learned three absolute facts, which many Americans fail to understand,” said Stutman. “First, law enforcement will never make drugs completely unavailable in the United States. Second, most adults know almost nothing about the world of kids and drugs. And third, drugs are devastating our communities, homes and workplaces, and we fail to deal with this in a way that will make any substantial change.”
David Robinson, president of DSM Technology Consultants, says he and other business leaders decided to sponsor Rx for Lakeland after hearing Stutman speak to TEC Lakeland, an executive development group.
“I went in a skeptic,” said Robinson. “I came out an activist.”
Wayne Smith, president of Custom Drilling Services, Inc., added: “If you’re a parent, you need to hear this.”
"Being a mere spectator is simply not an option,” said Marshall Goodman, VP and CEO of USF Lakeland. “We have an imperative to act. Bob Stutman has a timely, accurate and life altering message for ourselves and our children.”
Stutman is known for his practical, no-nonsense manner based on his 35 years of experience dealing with substance abuse as a law enforcement officer and consultant.
"I think it is important to speak open and honestly about the issue of substance abuse whether it be to kids, parents or employers in order to tackle head on the misconceptions that all of those different groups have about the problem of drugs in America,” he said.
“I look forward to sharing thoughts on how to cope and potentially resolve this devastating and debilitating problem.”
Rx for Lakeland is sponsored by Clark, Campbell & Mawhinney, P.A, DSM Technology Consultants, Madden, Green Construction, Heacock Insurance Group, Bank of Central Florida, Griffin Pools, Pilgrim Associates, Radiology and Imaging Specialists, NuJak Development, Inc., Bunch & Associates, Inc., YoungBiz, Allen Investments, Kyra Infotech, Inc., Custom Drilling Services, Inc., Digitech, Sunshine Growers, Inc., Saddle Creek Corporation, Avon Leasing, NCT Group, CPS Investment Advisors and USF Lakeland. For more information visit www.rxforlakeland.com or contact Wayman Snuggs at (321) 217-6167.
Bob Stutman is the most famous narc in America according to New York Magazine. His autobiography, "Dead on Delivery,” was a best-seller. He is the drug consultant for both PBS and CBS News, and Gov. Mario Cuomo calls him the "foremost expert on the drug issue." Stutman regularly appears on national TV, including “60 Minutes”, “The Geraldo Rivera Show,” “Today”, and has spoken in 73 countries.
