USF Lakeland to offer new MBA program

LAKELAND, FL (March 11, 2008) - The University of South Florida Lakeland will offer the only Master of Business Administration program at a public institution in the Polk County area.

USF Lakeland will begin a two-year MBA cohort program in Fall 2008. A cohort is a group of students who complete a degree program together, supporting each other and enhancing the growth of each individual through positive shared experiences. Courses will be offered Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings.

“This is the only MBA in Polk County that is fully accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, an internationally recognized accrediting body,” said Dr. Charles Kroncke, director, USF Lakeland Division of Business. “The AACSB seal of approval carries a great deal of weight. It is the hallmark of excellence in management education”

The MBA is a professional degree designed to prepare graduates for managerial roles in business and not-for-profit organizations. USF Lakeland is partnering with USF’s College of Business in Tampa for the MBA program.

“We’ll be using Tampa-based faculty in addition to the business faculty at USF Lakeland,” said Kroncke. “We have had wonderful cooperation with the College of Business and look forward to a very successful program geared toward working professionals in this area. Companies value the cross-functional knowledge and diverse experiences that accompany a USF MBA degree.”

According to Business Week, MBA students will earn 84% more than people with only an undergraduate education. In today's dynamic and highly competitive business environment, organizations require leaders who have the ability to anticipate and facilitate change, manage skillfully, and expand their knowledge and perspective

The MBA program will not only help train business professionals but also bolster economic development, said Kathleen Munson, president of the Lakeland Area Chamber of Commerce.

“From an economic development standpoint, we’re aggressively looking to recruit businesses with high-skill, high-wage jobs,” she said. “USF Lakeland’s new MBA program will be a valuable tool for business recruitment and retention.”

The USF MBA Program was designed with today's changing corporate environment in mind. The coursework aims to foster creativity and flexibility, helping students develop the insight and skills necessary for integrative solutions to complex business challenges. The program aims to graduate well-developed individuals who possess a balance of the specialized skills and general knowledge necessary to transcend functional boundaries and meet a variety of challenges in any organization.
