USF Lakeland Offers
Solution to Low FCAT Reading Scores in Highlands and Hardee Counties
LAKELAND,
FL (April 18, 2005) - The
University of South Florida Lakeland is hosting an Interest Session
at South Florida Community College to identify the interest of teachers
in Highlands and Hardee counties seeking a Master of Arts in Reading
Education. The Interest Session will be held on April 21,
2005 at 5:00 p.m. in the University Center located at SFCC,
in Avon Park.
Reading has received nationwide attention as test scores have dropped
dramatically in the last few years. Reading is being stressed in
schools at every level and this Master's Degree in Reading Education
will provide teachers with the tools necessary to teach the fundamentals
of reading and reading comprehension. Teachers may also become Kindergarten
to 12th grade certified to teach reading. USF Lakeland is pleased
to continue offering this degree seeking program at the SFCC University
Center and looks forward to a new group of students beginning this
program in the Fall of 2005. For more information about the Master's
in Reading Education contact Miranda Sloan, Graduate Academic Advisor,
at 863-667-7074.
