Karshmer, Chair of
Information Technology, Earns Fulbright Grant
LAKELAND,
FL (May 3, 2005) - Dr.
Arthur Karshmer, Department Chair of Information Technology at the
University of South Florida Lakeland, has been awarded a Fulbright
Senior Specialists grant in Information Technology at the Université
Pierre et Marie Curie, France.
"This grant offers me a great opportunity for furthering my research,"
said Karshmer, who will study at the university for four weeks from
early to late June. "It will also provide a great opportunity for
me to share ideas and experiences with other scholars."
Created to complement the traditional Fulbright Scholar Program,
the Fulbright Senior Specialists grant offers two- to six-week grants
to leading U.S. academics and professionals to support curricular
and faculty development and institutional planning at academic institutions
in 140 countries around the world.
"As a Fulbrighter, you (Karshmer) will be joining the ranks of distinguished
scholars and professionals worldwide who are leaders in the educational,
political, economic, social and cultural lives of their countries,"
said Patti McGill Peterson, Executive Director of the Council for
International Exchange of Scholars, the organization that manages
the Fulbright Scholar Program.
In addition to his research, Karshmer will also participate in an
array of academic activities, such as presenting lectures, participating
in or leading seminars or workshops and conducting teacher-training
programs.
Founded in 1947, the Fulbright Scholar Program was established on
behalf of the United States Department of State, Bureau of Educational
and Cultural Affairs and is the U.S. government's flagship academic
exchange effort. The grants are awarded to U.S. citizens and nationals
of other countries for a variety of educational activities, primarily
university lecturing, advanced research, graduate study and teaching
in elementary and secondary schools.
