USF Hosts "Strong
Field" of Finalists for Top Lakeland Post
LAKELAND,
FL (January 27, 2006) - Next
week the University of South Florida will be hosting four finalists
for the top administrative position at the growing USF Lakeland
campus. According to Dr. Karen A. White, Regional Chancellor at
USF's St. Petersburg campus and chair of the President's advisory
committee for the search, "the narrowed field reflects an impressive
group of senior administrators in higher education".
The finalists, listed alphabetically with date of campus visit in
parentheses, are as follows:
* Dr.
Theodore E. Batchman is Dean of the College of Engineering at
the University of Nevada Reno; he also holds a faculty appointment
as Professor of Engineering. (Friday,
February 3)
* Dr.
Kendall A. Blanchard is currently Professor of Business and
Anthropology at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado; he served
as President of FLC from 1999 to 2002. (Wednesday,
February 1)
* Dr.
Emily F. Cutrer is Dean of the New College of Interdisciplinary
Arts and Sciences at Arizona State University West, where she also
serves as a Professor in the Department of Language, Cultures, and
History. (Thursday,
February 2)
* Dr.
Marshall R. Goodman is Professor of Political Science and Special
Assistant to the President at San Jose State University, where he
served as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs from 2001
to 2004. (Tuesday,
January 31)
The four candidates represent a diverse range of academic, administrative
and geographic backgrounds, but each has been drawn to the unique
opportunity the USF Lakeland position represents. According to White,
"The Lakeland campus is poised for phenomenal academic and institutional
growth, undertaking the construction of a new campus on Florida's
'high tech corridor'. These opportunities are rare in higher education
and are attractive to outstanding candidates."
According to a USF spokesperson, campus and community feedback gathered
during these visits will be carefully evaluated by the advisory
committee and "constitutes an important part of what has been a
very thorough search process."
White noted that the rigorous, national search has included active
participation from diverse campus and community constituencies.
"We are now excited to use these campus visits as an opportunity
for the campus and community to more fully engage the candidates.
I believe the community will recognize this as a pivotal moment:
an extraordinary chance to recruit a high-impact visionary for this
leadership position."
Community members are welcome to participate in a variety of events
with the candidates. For more information, please contact USF Lakeland
University Relations at (863) 667-7055.
