A celebration of diversity
with Multicultural Fair, March 9
LAKELAND,
FL (March 2, 2006) - A
one-day celebration of diversity and international culture will
take place during the University of South Florida Lakeland’s
2nd annual Multicultural Fair on Thursday, March 9 from 4 p.m. until
7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public and will be held
on the front lawn of USFL, 3433 Winter Lake Road, Lakeland.
Sponsored
by USF Lakeland’s Student Government Association and USFL’s
Office of Diversity, the Multicultural Fair will feature music,
food, and children’s activities. There will also be an opportunity
to donate toward campus service projects such as the Haitian student
college fund and building water wells in Africa.
“The purpose of the Multicultural Fair is to promote inclusiveness
and enhance awareness of the diverse populations in our area,”
said Kristin Dailey, USF Lakeland Student Government President.
“This is an important way to augment the college experience,”
Dailey said. “We want our peers to know college is more than
going to class.”
Local restaurants will be on hand providing
a variety of authentic ethnic cuisines including dishes from Cuba,
Italy and India. Live Reggae music will be performed by local band,
“Paris and the Birds of Paradise.”
“The Multicultural
Fair creates an opportunity for students and community members to
get to know people different from themselves,” said Dr. Nathan
Thomas, Director of Diversity. Thomas also noted, “Black,
Hispanic, American Indian and Asian students comprise approximately
21.6% or our campus’ total student population.”
