Registration open for
Spring classes at Senior Center
Lakeland,
FL (March 21, 2006) - Spring
classes for senior adults at the University of South Florida Lakeland
Rath Senior ConNEXTions and Education Center are now open for registration.
The classes are scheduled to begin as early as April 3 and are offered
at the USF Lakeland campus, the Rath Center in Bartow and throughout
the community. Registration is $55 per course and space is limited;
pre-registration is required to participate.
Courses for the Spring 2006 session include:
• Artistic Archiving
• Introduction to Life Writing
• Intermediate Computers
• Conversational Spanish
• Creative Painting
• Basics of Crocheting
• Beginning French
• Landscaping Circles, Colors and Curves
• Beginning Computers
• Beginning Yoga
The Senior Scholars program at the Rath Center is designed to provide
active, older adults (ages 50+) with the opportunity to continue
lifelong learning, while being surrounded by peers in a friendly
environment. “All of our programs are created to enhance continued
intellectual and personal growth,” said Director of the USF
Lakeland Rath Senior ConNEXTions and Education Center, Dr. Rosemarie
S. Lamm.
In addition to Senior Scholars classes, the Rath Center
will host a free Caregiver Training series on Thursdays, April 6-27
from 9:30 to11:30 a.m. Presented by the Alzheimer’s Association,
this course is designed to provide family, friends and caregivers
of Alzheimer’s patients with information on the disease, including
legal advice, respite care, financial information, placement issues
and other helpful suggestions for caring for the Alzheimer's patient.
This course is open to the public.
“Our participants come from
every walk of life to learn together and gain knowledge on specific
issues of interest to them,” said Lamm. “Staff members,
students and instructors are able to exchange knowledge based on
their backgrounds and life experiences.”
Those registering
for the Rath Center’s Senior Scholars classes before March
24 will receive $10 off each class. For additional information on

The Rath Center is a partnership between
USF Lakeland and the Coalition on Aging Think Tank. The Rath Center
is the “next generation of senior care” and is the only
one of its kind in the area, providing connections to home health,
transportation, intervention and information on Alzheimer’s,
medication, educational opportunities, care giving and other issues
relevant to senior citizens.
