Lakeland,
FL (April 18, 2006) - The
4th annual University of South Florida Lakeland Career Fair will
take place from 4 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, April 19. This event is
free and open to the public and takes place on the Lakeland campus,
3433 Winter Lake Road.
Representatives from top Polk County business, non-profit and government
organizations are registered to participate in the fair. According
to data provided by the Lakeland Economic Development Council, four
out of ten major Lakeland area service and manufacturing businesses
will be recruiting at this year’s event. These employers include:
GEICO Direct, Rooms To Go, Lakeland Regional Medical Center, and
GC Services. Attendees are encouraged to bring resumes to prospective
employers.
The Career Fair is organized and sponsored by the USF Lakeland Career
Center. A list of the additional participating organizations is
available online at www.lakeland.usf.edu, and the Career Center
may be contacted at (863) 667-7063.
“This is a substantial opportunity for our students, alumni,
and community members who would like to explore employment options
with local and national businesses,” said Mary Mittag, USF
Lakeland career services counselor. “The professional atmosphere
of the fair gives participants the chance to make positive first
impressions on company representatives.” Mittag added that,
in addition to searching for a job, students are encouraged to attend
the fair for general information gathering and networking prospects.
“We look forward to recruiting at USF Lakeland each year,”
said Paula Shoman, a professional recruiter for Geico Direct. “We
hire more USF students than probably any other area college or university.”
