USF Lakeland invites
community to Scholarship Day, April 21
Lakeland,
FL (April 20, 2006) - The
University of South Florida Lakeland faculty, staff and students
will give presentations on their latest research at the 2nd annual
Scholarship Day, to be held Friday, April 21 beginning at 9 a.m.
This event is free and open to the public and is held at the University,
3433 Winter Lake Road.
USF Lakeland Vice President and CEO Dr. L. Preston Mercer will give
opening remarks, followed by presentations and displays of faculty
and student research findings from subjects such as Education, Business,
Information Technology, Leadership, Engineering, and the Social
Sciences.
“Research Day is an opportunity for each of us to enlarge
our circle of understanding, to consider all we have accomplished
and build the vision of how many more challenging questions we will
be able to answer through embracing research,” said Dr. Kim
Lersch, USF Lakeland Director of the Division of Arts and Sciences.
“This is a substantial opportunity for our students, alumni,
and community members who would like to explore employment options
with local and national businesses,” said Mary Mittag, USF
Lakeland career services counselor. “The professional atmosphere
of the fair gives participants the chance to make positive first
impressions on company representatives.” Mittag added that,
in addition to searching for a job, students are encouraged to attend
the fair for general information gathering and networking prospects.
Scholarship Day planners are extending an invitation to all area
community members. The goal of the event is to showcase the importance
of research and scholarship to the community.
Throughout the day,
attendants will have the opportunity to visit specialized poster
sessions and interact with USFL scholars in person. To view the
full agenda of events and speakers, contact Dr. Kim Lersch at (863)
667-7073 or visit www.lakeland.usf.edu.
