Lakeland,
FL (May 9, 2006) - Myrtice
Young delivered the University of South Florida Lakeland spring
commencement address on Monday, May 8, in the Youkey Theatre of
the Lakeland Center, 701 W. Lime St.
Young addressed the 125
spring graduates, who participated in the 7 p.m. Lakeland ceremony.
Young is First Vice President of Marketing at Citrus and Chemical
Bank in Bartow, Florida and a 1985 USF graduate. She has taken an
active role in the advancement of the University through the Lakeland
campus in various capacities. In earlier years, Young served as
President of the USF Lakeland Community Advisory Board and advised
USFL campus administration on matters relating to the community,
engaged support for the advancement of the University and assisted
in charting a course for the campus' future. Currently she serves
on the USFL Business Advisory Board and has also been integral in
establishing the educational partnership between USF Lakeland and
Citrus and Chemical Bank. The Leadership in Banking Certificate
Program allows the bank's mid-level managers to receive leadership
development skills while obtaining transferable college credit.
Young also received a Distinguished Service Award during the commencement
ceremony.
Dr. L. Preston Mercer, vice president and chief executive officer
of the Lakeland campus presided over the ceremony, gave the commencement
welcome and hosted USF system President Dr. Judy Genshaft as she
conferred the graduate's degrees. As USFL's outgoing Vice President/
CEO, this marked Mercer's final commencement ceremony.
Also addressing the graduates was Student Government representative
April Miller, giving the student body address. Alumni representative
Randy Dotson of Lakeland extended greetings on behalf of the alumni
association and recognized this spring's King O'neal recipient,
Sarah Brooker and outstanding senior, Darlene Williams.
