USF Lakeland Administrator Honored by President Genshaft
Associate Vice President of
Academic Affairs
Judith Ponticell, Ph.D.
LAKELAND,
FL (May 3, 2007) - For the first time in the history of the University of South Florida, one of USF's Presidential Women's Leadership Awards has been given to a woman from a regional campus. This week USF President Judy Genshaft honored Dr. Judith Ponticell, Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs at USF Lakeland, with the award at a ceremony in Tampa.
The President's Women's Leadership Award is sponsored by the Women's Status Committee for the USF system.
Ponticell, who serves as USF Lakeland's chief academic officer, was honored for her reputation as a servant-leader and her legacy of mentoring other women as an educator, administrator and friend. She is a nationally recognized expert in areas of educational leadership and policy as well as curriculum design and has published and lectured extensively, in addition to her administrative duties at USF Lakeland. She is also an award-winning teacher.
Ponticell received her BS and MA degrees from Chicago State University and her PhD and an MS degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
In presenting the award, President Genshaft noted the important role that leaders such as Ponticell play in strengthening the institution and ensuring future generations of leadership. Ponticell's nomination was supported by faculty and staff at USF Lakeland as well as a host of her former students around the country. According to USF Lakeland VP/CEO Marshall Goodman, "This honor is richly deserved. Dr. Ponticell has touched so many lives over the years, and we are very proud of her. She continues to make an impact at USF Lakeland each and every day."
