Lieutenant Governor
Toni Jennings and Council for Sustainable Florida Recognize The
University of South Florida Lakeland and
Citrus and Chemical Bank
LAKELAND,
FL (June 22, 2006) - The
University of South Florida Lakeland and Citrus & Chemical Bank
(C&C Bank) have been awarded the 2006 Sustainable Florida Promising
Practices Award by the Council for Sustainable Florida, an independent,
non-partisan program of the Collins Center for Public Policy. The
organization is committed to the balance of economic, social and
environmental development of the State of Florida.
Lieutenant Governor Toni Jennings joined the Council in honoring
USFL and C&C Bank for the successful implementation and development
of the Bank Leadership Certificate Program. The award was presented
during a special ceremony at the Florida State University Alumni
Center in Tallahassee on June 12.
USF Lakeland and C&C Bank collaboratively developed a program in
which the bank's mid-level managers receive specific and essential
leadership development skills and receive transferable college credit
simultaneously. The program's mission is to build future banking
leaders with strong character, leadership skills, relational competence
and extraordinary achievement potential.
USFL, C&C Bank and other Promising Practice Award winners will participate
in future events promoted by the Council for Sustainable Florida
and the Council will also work with other Florida colleges and universities
to create case studies of the winners for use in business programs
statewide. Award winners also received a resolution from Governor
Jeb Bush and his Cabinet.
According to Dr. Marshall Goodman, vice president and campus executive
officer of the USF Lakeland Campus, "This program is a wonderful
example of one of the ways in which USF Lakeland will serve as a
collaborative resource for our community. To have the excellence
of this program recognized in Tallahassee is very gratifying, and
we are proud of the joint effort with our friends at C&C."
Created in 1990 by the Florida Legislature, the Council has a commitment
to improve Florida's environment and economy, while building a safer,
healthier, higher quality of life for all of its citizens. Since
initiating the Best Practices Awards program in 1998, the Council
has recognized and honored more than 100 businesses, non-profit
organizations, governmental groups and individuals whose work is
committed to the future success of Florida.
