The University of South Florida is one of Florida’s top three research universities, and one of only 10 universities ranked in the top tier of public research universities and the top tier of community-engaged universities. 12-08-2003 • Polk County Resident, Cancer Survivor Earns Degree and Recognition

For many, going back to school is a challenge in and of itself. Couple the challenges of pursuing an education with a battle with cancer, and the idea of continuing education may seem too daunting for most. For Winter Haven resident and USF Lakeland student Rebekah Pratt, her upcoming graduation from USF Lakeland is a milestone that has not been easily reached. Not only will she receive her degree, but she will also receive recognition as USF Lakeland's Outstanding Senior during their first Fall Commencement Ceremony. Read more


12-05-2003 • Lakeland Businessman To Receive Distinguished Service Award From USF Lakeland

The University of South Florida’s Lakeland campus is proud to announce the Fall 2003 recipient of the USF Lakeland Distinguished Service Award, Mr. Daniel E. Stetson. The Polk Museum of Art Executive Director and friend of USF Lakeland, will receive his award in the upcoming Fall commencement exercises scheduled for Tuesday, December 16, 2003, at 7:00 p.m. in the Youkey Theatre of the Lakeland Center. 12-02-2003 • First Doctoral Graduate Announced At USF Lakeland

The University of South Florida's Lakeland campus is proud to announce the upcoming graduation of its first-ever doctoral graduate. Kate Blackburn will receive her Doctor of Education degree in Educational Leadership from the University of South Florida's Lakeland campus Tuesday, December 16, 2003, at 7:00 p.m. in the Youkey Theatre of the Lakeland Center. 11-24-2003 • Senior ConNEXTions Center To Hold Ribbon-Cutting

University of South Florida President Judy Genshaft and USF Lakeland Vice-President and CEO, Preston Mercer are proud to announce the upcoming ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new ConNEXTions Center in Bartow, FL. 11-20-2003 • USF Lakeland Readies for First Fall Commencement

The University of South Florida's Lakeland campus is proud to announce their first annual Fall commencement exercises for Tuesday, December 16, 2003, 7:00 p.m. in the Youkey Theatre of the Lakeland Center. Over 80 students are expected to graduate from the local campus this Fall. The speaker for the inaugural Fall commencement exercises will be Congressman Adam Putnam. Read more


11-07-2003 • The Pirates Have Landed At USF Lakeland!

The Pirates of the Caribbean are on their way to Lakeland! The Student Government Association at USF Lakeland will host a free viewing of the recent big-screen hit, “The Pirates of the Caribbean,” starring Johnny Depp. Showings will be Friday, November 21, 2003, at 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., in the USF Lakeland Auditorium. 10-23-2003 • Sun-N-Fun Economic Impact Findings To Be Released At USF Lakeland

The tradition of the Sun N Fun Fly-In in Lakeland has been a large draw for the Polk county area for decades. A new study will soon reveal the economic impact of the United States’ second largest private aircraft convention and show. 10-21-2003 • Homecoming Festivities Planned At USF Lakeland

Calling all Bulls!!! It's Homecoming time at the University of South Florida! Thanks to the hard work of the USF Lakeland Student Government Association, students on the University's local campus won't have to go far to participate in 2003 Homecoming events. Festivities will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 28, 2003 on the Lakeland campus, with activities such as mechanical bull riding, rock wall climbing, jousting (with inflatable jousting sticks), and inflatable sumo wrestling. 10-17-2003 • Tropicana Products Senior Vice-President To Speak At USF Lakeland

Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer for Tropicana Products, Ron Coughlin, will speak to USF students and the Lakeland Community Tuesday, October 28, 2003, at 6:00 p.m. The lecture, titled "Fact-Based Decision Making," will be presented in room 1278 of the USF Lakeland campus, as part of the University's Economics 3100 course. 10-16-2003 • Saxena Family Funds Lecture Series at USF Lakeland

Thanks to the generosity of one local family, the University of South Florida's Lakeland campus will soon have the opportunity to create a Lakeland-based distinguished lecture series. The Saxena Family Endowed Lecture Series is made possible by a contribution from Mr. and Mrs. D. "Sax" Saxena of Lakeland, the founder of the Lakeland-based consulting engineering firm ASC geosciences, Inc. where his two sons, Anu Saxena and Jay Saxena are also owners. The Lecture Series will enable the local campus to bring in esteemed lecturers for community and scholarly use presentations. Read more

It's Fall and football fever is in the air. Have you had the chance to purchase those Bulls football tickets yet? Students on the University of South Florida's Lakeland campus now have the opportunity to request companion tickets for family and friends at a discounted rate. Through the USF Lakeland Student Government, students may request companion tickets for $16 each for any USF home game. Read more

The Student Government Association at USF Lakeland will host a free viewing of the recent big-screen hit, "The Hulk," starring Eric Bana as the man-to-monster dynamo. 09-09-2003 • Enrollment Continues to Rise At USF Lakeland

Once again, enrollment at the Lakeland campus of the University of South Florida has reached record numbers. Over 1700 students have enrolled for courses on the local campus. This number reflects a 39% increase of on-campus students from the Fall 2002 enrollment. More than 350 of these students are currently enrolled in courses at distant, "twig" locations such as South Florida Community College in Avon Park. Read more

08-26-2003 • USF Lakeland/Coalition on Aging Open Senior Center in Bartow

Polk County now has a new center dedicated to meeting the needs of the aging population in the county. The Senior ConNEXTions Center, located in Bartow at the old Bartow Memorial Hospital site, is a partnership between USF-Lakeland and the Coalition on Aging Think Tank. The ConNEXTtions center is the "next generation of senior care" and is the only one of its kind in the area, housing services and information on Alzheimer's, medication, educational opportunities, care giving and other issues relevant to senior citizens.
