	Mr. Alfred Rath This innovative center is the vision of Mr. Alfred Rath and the Coalition on Aging Think Tank (CATT), a "grassroots" organization which first proposed a need for coordinated aging services in 1998. With the support of the University of South Florida Lakeland under the direction of past Vice President Dr. Preston Mercer, Associate Vice President Dr. Alice Murray and Dr. Rosemarie Lamm, CATT continued meeting. Goals were established which included acquisition of a grant from USF which provided funding for the study of the senior population. The results of this study provided another grant from the West Central Florida Area Agency on Aging and Polk County Elderly Services for Dr. Lamm to promote education for caregivers. This information reached 1100 persons during 14 programs and provided more data related to aging. The research supported a need to develop a center which could enable seniors and families access to vital education, information and services. Service providers in Polk County are members of CATT and volunteered to partner with the University of South Florida Lakeland to provide this much needed service. The Bartow Community Healthcare Foundation provided a grant of 4200 Sq. Ft. of space to further develop an aging program. After the successful acquisition of these generous grants, an award in support of the Senior ConNEXTion project was given by The Research Retirement Foundation to Dr. Rosemarie S. Lamm as Project Director at USF. Thus the center, once a vision, became a reality!
